EUSR Under Pressure Drilling and Tapping Training

2 days
8 MAX

This training course provides the essential learning required for individuals to carry out Under Pressure Drilling and Tapping in accordance with recognised best practice. Under pressure drilling is often called ‘hot tapping’ as it’s a precise drilling process where a hole is cut into an operational pressure main (flowing pipe system). The objective is to not leak the contents of the main or interrupt flow. A tapping sleeve and valve are utilised to facilitate the cutting of a hole in the under pressure main, providing a branch connection. Typical under pressure drilling capabilities range from ¼” to 48” pipelines and this technique can be performed on all types of pipes.

Course Objectives

  • Understand the dangers, identify the hazards and minimise the risks (through control measures) associated with under pressure drilling & tapping as well as the ancillary equipment/items required to safely and successfully complete mechanical jointing installations
  • Recognise the risks associated with working with pipelines under pressure
  • Define under pressure drilling and tapping and what it is designed to achieve
  • Understand the general connection options: Sacrificial and Temporary
  • Possess a good understanding of under pressure drilling & tapping sequences
  • Explain the equipment sequence and stages of under pressure drilling & tapping
  • Recognise the significance and implications of incorrect under pressure drilling & tapping
  • Identify where issues occur and how to solve these problems
  • Establish what creates leaks and service failures
  • Determine how to avoid leaks and service failures
  • Discuss how to check integrity of the joint upon completion
  • Execute pre and post usage safety checks
  • Expose how poor practice often severely impacts the overall jointing process
  • Discuss in detail correct installation method(s) and what the look like out in the field
  • Practical under pressure drilling & tapping demonstration to illustrate connection quality

Certification

  • EUSR photo id card with qualification stated on the back of the card
  • Groundforce Training certificate of attendance (in addition to EUSR card)
Certification

Who will benefit?

Managers, supervisors, safety professionals and/or operatives who are required to oversee or carry out under pressure drilling & tapping installations. If you physically carry out under pressure drilling & tapping and haven't had any formal training, this course is essential to minimise risk to yourself and those around you.
